Stephan Solat, LCSW-C

Therapist

Hello!

Coming into my 2nd career as a therapist, following more than 25 years working in community health programs in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Ukraine, I have acquired a multicultural lens through which to perceive the strengths and sensitivities of adults and teenagers from a diverse array of upbringings. Moreover, my perceptivity is deepened by an interfaith spiritual practice I have followed since I was a teen.

During the last 8 years, my clients and I have focused on traumatic events experienced during infancy, early childhood and through adulthood. Witnessing and supporting the courage and strength of my clients has enabled me to grow professionally; they have included people with depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD and anger arising from PTSD, and who are:

  • 12- to 84-year-olds;
  • women, men, and LGBTQIA
  • on the autism spectrum
  • of faith, spiritual-but-not-religious, agnostic and atheist

My most often used therapeutic modalities include Internal Family Systems/Parts work, Eye Movement, Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) in which I am certified, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  I am also a teacher of the ancient Chinese healing art of Qigong, which I offer to clients who are interested in learning it.

My education includes a Master of Community Health degree from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, with specialty in clinical behavioral health.  My licensure in clinical social work is in Maryland and Washington DC.
