Life can feel overwhelming, confusing, and at times isolating. You might find yourself repeating patterns you don’t fully understand, feeling disconnected from yourself or others, or carrying experiences that still shape how you move through the world. Therapy offers a place to slow down and begin to make sense of that.
Our work is conversational. We listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and explore the meaning behind your experiences. Together, we look for new perspectives, not to fix you, but to help you understand yourself more deeply and find ways forward that feel possible and true to you.
Takoma Therapy is based in Takoma Park, Maryland, right on the border of Washington, DC.
We’re part of a connected, vibrant community, and we work with clients from across the wider DC and Maryland area. Many of our clients come from nearby neighborhoods and cities including Silver Spring, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Northwest DC. We’re also within easy reach, typically under an hour’s drive, from places like Arlington, Alexandria, and parts of Northern Virginia.
For many people, being able to access therapy close to home matters. It makes it easier to show up consistently, and it allows therapy to feel more integrated into your life, rather than something separate from it.
Our office is a calm, welcoming space where you can step out of the noise of daily life and into something more intentional. We also offer telehealth sessions, but for those who are local, in-person therapy remains a meaningful part of the work.
Takoma Therapy was founded by Simone Jacobs, a licensed clinical social worker with a long-standing commitment to relational, trauma-informed care.
Simone’s approach is warm, direct, and deeply thoughtful. She believes that therapy is not about being “fixed,” but about understanding the stories you carry and the meaning you’ve made from your experiences. Through conversation, reflection, and curiosity, she helps clients explore how those stories shape their relationships with themselves and others, and how new perspectives can open the door to change.
Her work has focused for many years on trauma, particularly the impact of abuse and neglect, as well as the ways identity, culture, and history shape emotional life. She brings a depth of experience to this work, alongside a genuine respect for the complexity of each person’s story.
Under her leadership, Takoma Therapy has grown into a group practice that holds these same values: thoughtful care, curiosity, and a belief in each person’s capacity for healing.
We don’t see people as problems to be solved.
We see therapy as a space where you can:
Our therapists work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. But more than that, we work with people, each with their own history, strengths, and way of making meaning.
Starting therapy can feel uncertain. You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You only need a place to begin.
Whether you’re looking for support through something specific, or you simply know something needs to change, we’re here to walk alongside you.
